Holder seeks to avert mandatory minimum sentences for some low-level drug offenders - The Washington Post

Holder seeks to avert mandatory minimum sentences for some low-level drug offenders - The Washington Post:

by

Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. is set to announce Monday that low-level, nonviolent drug offenders with no ties to gangs or large-scale drug organizations will no longer be charged with offenses that impose severe mandatory sentences.

The new Justice Department policy is part of a comprehensive prison reform package that Holder will reveal in a speech to the American Bar Association in San Francisco, according to senior department officials. He is also expected to introduce a policy to reduce sentences for elderly, nonviolent inmates and find alternatives to prison for nonviolent criminals.

Up in smoke: How Gary Johnson and a Colorado marijuana initiative could cost Obama the election

BOULDER, Colorado—Dressed in a sports jacket, a faded peace-symbol T-shirt and blue jeans, the Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson was playing to a rapturous overflow crowd at the University of Colorado. The man who could be the Ralph Nader of 2012 beguiled his largely male, mostly student audience with his views on the second-biggest issue on the Colorado ballot this year: Amendment 64, which would legalize marijuana.

“I’m the only candidate running for president of the United States who wants to end the drug war now,” Johnson, a former Republican governor of New Mexico, said Monday night to cheers. “Colorado has the opportunity to change worldwide drug policy by voting for Issue 64.”

Johnson, who first endorsed marijuana legalization in 1999, is a Ron Paul libertarian with a deep toke of social permissiveness. Even though he was an asterisk in the 2012 Republican presidential primaries, Johnson and his pro-pot stance could be a surprise factor in a swing state where all the polls point to a tie. As Jeff Orrok, the Colorado chairman of the Libertarian Party, puts it, “We’re getting a fair amount of synergy around Amendment 64.”

The foolery of being and voting Democrat

Have you ever wondered what the fight "across the aisle was all about? Let me explain it, without hiding the root cause. Our founding Fathers set this country as a Republic, not a Democracy. Let's first look at the definitions for both, then weigh the differences, and conclude with what this country is leaning towards, and what can be done to correct these problems.

Republic - a state in which the supreme power rests in the body of citizens entitled to vote and is exercised by representatives chosen directly or indirectly by them.

Democratic - upholding or favouring democracy or the interests of the common people.

The contrast between the to is significant to say they are polar opposites, a republic is governed by the citizens, whereas a Democracy is the government holds the power and dictates what is best for the people, based on a Majority Rule.
This should go to show why our great nations founding fathers started the preamble of the constitution, "We the People," to enable us to stand up to our government, and stop the federal government from encroaching on our rights.

Originally, America allowed only Adults who fulfilled residency requirements, and paid taxes, the right to vote. Our republic should be opposed, to becoming the global champion of Democracy. What a democracy allows is anyone over the age of 18 to vote, this was exactly what our early leaders did not want to happen.

"Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide." – John Adams (1814)

If this is a fact, then where did democracy come from? There are traces as far back as babylon, but it was first introduced in the Roman Empire, and we all know what happened to the Roman Empire, it crumbled. We aren't trying to follow in their footsteps, are we? I know I'm not!

Democrat - a person who believes in the political or social equality of all people.

Republican - an advocate or supporter of a republic.

According to the last two definitions, all Americans ARE republican. Otherwise, those of you who choose to be democrats, are terrorists, whose only objective is to destroy our republic, by getting rid of the constitution. Besides the fact that a democrat is not an advocate of the republic, he/she also DOES NOT support the republic. One can also conclude that democrats aren't the hard-working tax-payers, but are and represent those on welfare.

When I become president I plan to take away the right to vote unless you pay federal income taxes, and I pledge to be a champion of the constitution. As for President Obama, he hasn't repealed the patriot Act, which is unconstitutional, and has quadrupled the national Debt. He shouldn't be re-elected, because he is not a supporter of the republic!

Vote for freedom, elect Mitt Romney, at least he's American!

Gary Johnson Wants In on the Debates

Gary Johnson files anti-trust lawsuit to appear in presidential debates (via Raw Story )

Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson filed an anti-trust lawsuit suit in federal court Friday alleging that the Democratic and Republican parties are conspiring to keep third-party candidates out of the presidential debates and, as a result, out of the White House. In the suit, Johnson’…

The truth is out there, we just need to look for it!

Dear Gregory,

As Ben Franklin stated, "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."

Sadly, the statists in Washington, D.C. keep choosing to take away more and more of our liberties for some bureaucrat's vision of so-called "safety."

In today's world, "security" really means handing over the last bits of freedom to Big Government's prying eyes.

Just recently, the Senate Armed Services Committee called for drones returning from Afghanistan to be used "freely and routinely" in U.S. airspace.

Government agencies are training drones by tracking civilian cars over American cities.

Law enforcement agencies are buying them up by the dozen – happy to let the spying begin.

The Congressional Research Service states domestic drones could be equipped "with facial recognition or soft biometric recognition, which can recognize and track individuals based on attributes such as height, age, gender, and skin color."

More than 30,000 are expected to be flying across the United States in the near future.

This isn't something out of George Orwell's 1984. It's America in 2012.

And it's all designed so politicians can line the pockets of their crony capitalist pals – while you and I pay the price with our tax dollars and our freedom.

I'm not telling you all this to dishearten you – although I understand it may be discouraging to look the facts straight in the face.

I'm telling you this because these are the battles you and I can't ignore if we are going to maintain our last vestiges of freedom as Americans – and regain what we've lost.

After all, in recent years, we've witnessed the passage of the so-called "Patriot" Act, which allows the government to wiretap and spy on American citizens.

We've seen the passage of the NDAA - allowing the government to lock up and detain American citizens indefinitely without so much as a warrant.

And we see the TSA routinely groping elderly women and children at airports.

Ten years after its creation, a congressional report was issued saying the TSA was "bloated and ineffective."

More than 25,000 security breaches have occurred under its watch.

Our liberties are being stolen from us daily – and for NOTHING.

So what's next? What else will the security statists demand of us in order to finally make us "safe and secure"?

"Black boxes" in every car?

Cameras on every street corner? In every house?

RFID tracking chips implanted in every man, woman, and child – all designed to ensure we're "safe"?

So government bureaucrats can ensure we don't smoke the wrong thing?

To ensure our sodas aren't too big or our cheeseburgers too greasy?

How much liberty will politicians steal before the American people wake up and say "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!"?

I believe you and I are at a tipping point.

More and more Americans ARE getting fed up.

Senator Rand Paul has already introduced legislation to get the out-of-control TSA screeners out of our airports.

And he recently introduced a bill that would stop the government from arbitrarily using drones to spy on Americans by forcing it to obey the Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

But more attacks on our Fourth Amendment rights are coming at the American people full-speed ahead.

It's up to you and me to stop them.

You and I must be prepared to take on the statists and defend our freedoms.

That's exactly what Campaign for Liberty has been doing - and will continue to do - in the coming weeks and months.

Our goal is to reawaken men and women from coast to coast and rally them to defend liberty before it's too late.

Because it's not too late.

Not yet.

The free soul of America still exists.

But it's up to you and me to create a grassroots fire that no politician in his or her right mind would dare ignore.

In Liberty,

John Tate
President

P.S. The Big Government statists are wasting no time further eroding our Fourth Amendment rights.

Federal Reserve Has Been Issued Police Powers

Federal Reserve Has Been Issued Police Powers
by Tim Brown

Did you know that the Federal Reserve is not a government entity? They aren’t. They are a private Bank that works with the federal government. However, id you know that they were also vested with police powers? That’s right, a non-government bank has police powers via the federal government.

The USA Patriot ACt of 2001, which is anything but patriotic, bestowed domestic police powers on the 12 privately owned Federal Reserve Banks.

Section 364 of the Act,

“Uniform Protection Authority for Federal Reserve,” reads: “Law enforcement officers designated or authorized by the Board or a reserve bank under paragraph (1) or (2) are authorized while on duty to carry firearms and make arrests without warrants for any offense against the United States committed in their presence…Such officers shall have access to law enforcement information that may be necessary for the protection of the property or personnel of the Board or a reserve bank.”

Pam Martens, of AlterNet, writes,

The police officers are technically known as FRLEO, short for Federal Reserve Law Enforcement Officer. The system has its own police academies for training, their own patch and badges, uniforms, pistols, rifles, police cars and the power to arrest coast to coast without a warrant. They have ranks of Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain and a recruitment ad campaign with the slogan: “It’s about respect and recognition from your peers. It’s you.”

The FRLEOs employed by the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington, D.C. are considered employees of the Federal government since the Board is a government entity. Each of the 12 Federal Reserve Banks, as settled law under Lewis v. United States confirms, is a private corporation owned by commercial banks in its region. An email to several of the Federal Reserve Banks confirmed that they regard their FRLEOs to be privately employed by the bank.

There is also the obvious question as to why the expense, training and potential liability of armed police would be necessary when all of the Federal Reserve Banks are in cities with large municipal police forces. With private bankers sitting on the Boards of each of these Reserve Banks, many of whom are officers of banks under criminal investigation, there is the serious need for Congressional investigation into how the Nation’s criminal databases are being used by the private sector as well as the further chilling of protest and dissent from another new sheriff in town.

Vote Ron Paul ~ Mitt Romney Orchestrated To Loose: Rothschild Foments Terrorism In Palestine To Get U.S. To Protect His Israeli Oil Investment Of 1917.

Republican Mitt Romney has seven weeks before the US presidential election to overcome his latest campaign stumble, a secretly made video that shows him telling wealthy donors that nearly half of Americans are dependent on government and that his role “is not to worry about those people.”

More footage was released today from the same event, with Romney saying Palestinians are “committed to the destruction and elimination of Israel” and suggesting that efforts at Mideast peace under his administration would languish.

Not long after the video surfaced, a tired-looking Romney held a hastily called late-night news conference and conceded his “off the cuff” remarks were not “elegantly stated.” The Romney campaign has not disputed the video’s authenticity.

The Mitt Romney Presidential Crux.

Call upon Mitt Romney now to either post Gaskell Romney’s US naturaliztion documents (or repatriated record) or George Romney‘s US naturaliztion documents that he would have filled out and signed when he was 21 years of age, or withdraw from the presidential race as Constitutionally unqualified to take the oath of office of the presidency of the United States.

The Ron Paul Grassroots "Delegate Lawsuit" Tossed, New Version Filed

The Ron Paul Grassroots "Delegate Lawsuit" Tossed, New Version Filed
Brian Doherty|Aug. 10, 2012 5:47 pm

The lawsuit filed by a Ron Paul grassroots activist lawyer charging the Republican National Committee (RNC) with various shenanigans against Ron Paul delegates and calling for the RNC to admit that no delegate is bound to vote for Romney was dismissed by U.S. District Judge David Carter this week.

Carter's order to dismiss.

Some relevant language from the order explaining why the Judge didn't think the suit worth going forward:

For example, Plaintiffs’ vague reference to “State Bylaws” gives this Court no inkling as to which of the 50 states and which of the millions of pages of bylaws Plaintiffs refer. Similarly, Plaintiffs’ use of the passive voice renders it impossible to discern who broke the bones of whom, who pointed a gun at whom, and whether any of the more than 100 Defendants were even involved. Finally, Plaintiffs’ vague allegations of voting ballot fraud occurring somewhere at sometime and apparently committed simultaneously by all “Defendants” lacks plausibility. While Plaintiffs make an oblique reference to a voting machine somewhere in Arizona, the lack of clarity in this allegation is insufficient to raise it to a level above mere speculation. Thus, this Court does not accept these allegations as true.

I wrote about that suit both right here at Reason and in the New York Times back in June.

The Paul campaign itself never embraced the suit or supported it--though Ron Paul himself didn't choose to condemn it either. Richard Gilbert, the lawyer who filed it, was ferocious in his insistence it was for the good of the delegates, and the honesty of the Republican primary and caucus process.

Remains of Libya attack victims return home

Updated at 4:09 p.m. ET

(CBS/AP) ANDREWS AIR FORCE BASE, Md. - President Obama on Friday honored the four Americans killed in an attack on the U.S. consulate in Libya, recalling their lives in deeply personal terms and declaring the United States will never pull back on its principles or "retreat from the world."

"Their sacrifice will never be forgotten," Mr. Obama said as four flag-draped cases rested near him. He had come to witness the return of those slain in the assault on the American diplomatic mission, including the U.S. ambassador, Christopher Stevens.

In the heat of a presidential election year, the scene was a gripping reminder of the danger facing Americans in diplomatic and military service every day, and of the turmoil in an incendiary region of the world that continues to test Mr. Obama's leadership.

After "Fort Knox" break-in, U.S. nuclear stockpile security in focus

By Roberta Rampton | Reuters

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A shocking security breach at what was supposed to be one of the most secure facilities in the United States has put new attention on a proposal to overhaul the way the government oversees its nuclear laboratories and weapons plants.

The Republican-controlled House of Representatives approved a plan to give more flexibility to the contractor-run facilities that make up the U.S. nuclear weapons complex, part of its annual defense policy bill passed in May.

The governance reforms were geared to address a long legacy of cost overruns and overly bureaucratic management highlighted in several bipartisan reports on the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), which is part of the Energy Department.

But some critics say the proposals need a second look in the wake of a July break-in at the Y-12 facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, a contractor-run facility built after the September 11, 2001 al Qaeda attacks on New York and Washington, once touted as "the Fort Knox of uranium" because of its security features.

Three aging anti-nuclear activists, including an 82-year-old nun, cut through fences surrounding a facility where highly enriched uranium, a key component of nuclear bombs, is stored. They vandalized its exterior, going unstopped until they walked up to a security guard's car and surrendered.

"It seems to me this is a great case study of the fact that what you want is more government oversight," said Peter Stockton, an investigator with the Project on Government Oversight who has extensively studied nuclear security issues.
